Chiddingly Festival presents #CF40 - The fortieth festival!

The Hobgoblin Folk Night featuring Martin Carthy takes place on Friday 21st September.

Between the 20th and 30th of September 2018, our cosy village will play host to some of the best creative talent from all over Britain, along with the local music, art, food and drink that makes Chiddingly Festival so special.

Kicking off the CF40 celebrations on September 20th is a joyous combination of old and new with the family -friendly Lantern Trail and Bell Ringing procession; round the corner in the village hall, we heartily invite you to the CF40 Celebration Event and screening of Spirit of the Village, the much- anticipated film documenting the village, it’s inhabitants, and the creation of Chiddingly’s Millenni um Garden. Featuring footage from the last 20 years, this one- off screening is not to be missed. The evening promises to be a wonderful celebration of everything that makes the Festival so unique, with special guests including the world-renowned poet John Agard – reserve your free ticket now.

Once again, we celebrate music of all varieties at the Chiddingly Festival; Jazz Breakfast returns, followed swiftly by a host of live bands at the CF40 Big Family Weekend, The Hobgoblin Folk Evening brings Martin Carthy to the Village alongside classical with The Pelléas Ensemble, and the Tim Roberts Harpsichord Recital and world class jazz musician Tim Garland.

From 22nd September, the jam packed Big Family Weekend returns with an abundance of workshops for all ages to enjoy; woodland craft, kite making, pottery and willow weaving feature on Saturday and Sunday (booking recommended), interspersed with Morris Dancing, Mummery, the dazzling interactive family theatre show The Dreamwheeze Noise Machine, and raucous entertainment from ‘Prof’ Glyn Edwards - one of “the world's best” Pun ch and Judy performers - a real treat. Try a range of local beers, stouts, ales and ciders and stuff yourself with food from Horse Box Catering, Al the Pieman and Indulgent Ice Creams, to name a few.

When you’ve had enough local delicacies, why not try something from further afield? We’ve teamed up with Heathfield’s Cuculo Deli to bring you Divertimento Italiano; sample a uthentic Italian dishes, a election of wines, and a nostalgic Italian movie in a celebration of food and culture from across the pond, on Tuesday 25th.

We are extremely proud to present the annual Art and Craft Exhibition again this year, with the vibrant colours and impressive talents of our regular exhibitors and our new ones; paintings, prints, ceramics, glass, jewellery and textiles all feature, with much more besides.

Continuing a well- established legacy of renowned comedy names at the festival, we are joined this year for the Harvey’s Comedy Evening by star of Mock the Week, Radio 4’s NewsQuiz, and Live at the Apollo, the hilarious Kerry Godliman ; her pacey, witty new show Stick or Twist plays at the village hall on 23rd September and is sponsored by Harvey’s of Lewes. We are also thrilled to showcase an evening of pub theatre with performance poet, comedian, and through- and - through punk Jonny Fuffypunk, who is sure to bring some spice to your Wednesday night.

The festiva l’s penultimate evening presents the perfect opportunity to dance off all that local beer; get your tickets while they’re hot for an evening of disco, funk and house , and round off the festival in style with the Festival Fiesta.

Bursting at the seams with enthusiasm, heart and xcitement for the arts, Chiddingly is the place to be for this year’s bumper fortieth year.
