  • The Bodhran

The Bodhran is the traditional Irish Drum. Made from a round wooden frame, with an animal skin stretched over it. The bodhrán (pronounced bow-rahn) is the heartbeat of Irish traditional music, and is a hugely popular choice with our customers. Capable of surprisingly complicated rhythms, when played well it can really lift the music. You don’t need to be able to read music to play; get yourself a Bodhrán and you will soon be able to join in with the music.

We have Bodhrans from a wide range of bodhran makers in Ireland Scotland, England and the USA. Malachy Kearns of Roundstone, Waltons of Dublin, Michael Vignoles of Galway, Belgarth from Orkney, Scotland and Gremlin form England. We sell all the accessories you might need too, dubbin, goat skins, beaters, brushes, bags, tutor books, cds and videos.

All our Bodhráns are good value for money, and they come with a full guarantee - that’s why we’ve sold many thousands of them! However, all Bodhrán skins should be treated with dubbin or oiled regularly so as to avoid difficulties with changes in the weather. This process also gives a new drum the softer sound most players look for. Every Bodhran comes complete with beater.

    Glenluce

The Glenluce instruments are made for us in Pakistan, with a solid wood rim, and natural goat skin. Despite the low price, they are extremely reliable and the skins stay on well. The makers have developed the range and listened to input from players, and this has resulted in some great sounding new Bodhrans

    Waltons

Waltons bodhrans are made in Dublin by that long established company. They are very reasonably priced for genuine Irish instruments. The skins are goat, held in place with a strip of wood under the tacks, giving a very neat appearance

    Kearns

Malachy Kearns bodhrans are handmade in the West of Ireland. They are very reasonably priced for genuine Irish instruments. The skins are goat, held in place with a strip of wood under the tacks, giving a very neat appearance.

    Vignoles

Michael Vignoles makes stout drums with good quality Irish made goat skins.

    Belgarth

Orkney based Eoin Belgarth makes the best bodhrans we have ever played, a must have.
